Place: Key West Florida
Explore The Island With Key West Tours
by Christine OKelly

When considering a visit to Florida for a family vacation, most people envision amusement parks, but the Florida Keys offers so much more. For an exciting and unique vacation opportunity that offers something different, consider heading to the island of Key West.

A vacation to this island paradise offers exciting activities like dolphin encounters, pirate museums, snorkeling the coral reef, and scuba diving to explore shipwrecks for sunken treasure. Most people don't know this once richest city in America due to the shipping trade in the 1800s is full of natural beauty and colorful history in addition to being home of the largest coral reef in the United States and the third largest coral reef in the world.

This article looks at great things to do on the island, including many Key West tours that offer a little something for everyone.

A Look At Old Town

If you or someone traveling with you romanticizes the lives of pirates, a visit to the pirate museums of Old Town will offer a ton of fun. The Pirate Soul Museum along with other Old Town museums provide a look at artifacts of the pirate past of the island.

While you're in Old Town, rent an electric car or a bicycle to take in the island scenery. These are the preferred methods of transportation here and they allow you to get around easily as you browse unique shops, eat some amazing seafood, and meet some friendly locals. You can enjoy a whole afternoon in town and then head for the beach to work on your tan, drink a fruity tropical beverage, or get dressed before hitting the water.

Snorkeling The Reef

Known for gorgeous beaches and spectacular undersea marine life, these waters and the incredible coral reef provide the perfect opportunity for snorkeling. Rich with a wide variety of plants, tropical fish, corals, crustaceans, eagle rays, dolphin, sea turtles, stingrays, spiny lobsters, and more, you'll have the experience of a lifetime as you explore this remarkable undersea world. You may even run into a shark or two. Consider taking an Island Shipwreck tour or a tour of Fleming Key Channel. Most snorkeling tours on the island provide all the equipment you'll need in addition to snacks, beverages, and helpful guides who will teach you the basics of snorkeling before you jump in the water on your own.

If you'd like to head to the depths of the ocean, consider a scuba diving tour. After a scuba certification class, you can head to the sea floor to see more interesting marine life and shipwrecks.

Other Exciting Tours

The island offers many other exciting tours, including touring by airplane, which offers an incredible perspective on the entire island. Backpacking tours through the Mangrove Islands, glass bottomed boat tours, dolphin encounter tours, and sunset cruises all provide a unique experience and a look at all of the abundant natural wonders of the island.

There are vacations and then there are exciting vacation adventures. You'll always return invigorated and relaxed from a vacation to this tropical island destination with a golden tan, incredible photographs, and memories that will last a lifetime.
